Early Intervention Programs by State

As part of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, Part C focuses entirely on early intervention programs for the birth – 3 population before they are covered by part B from ages 3-21. The governor of each state selects a lead agency to be in charge of implementing IDEA part C. In Arkansas where I live, the lead agency is the Department of Human Services (DHS) and the program that we have is called First Connections.

Here at The Speech Parent, I’m on a mission to equip parents to advocate for their child’s needs. That includes advocating for (ideally free!) access to speech-language evaluations and therapy. So I’ve done the Googling for you! Here is a list of each state’s early intervention program and their phone number. You can first check out their websites using the links below. Then you can call your state’s number and ask how you can have your child tested for speech-language therapy in your city.
